Force 9 Energy has received planning consent for its six-turbine Barmoor Wind Farm at Lowick, Berwick upon Tweed in Northumberland. Pendragon were appointed to handle the communication in 2004 and worked closely with the development team, landowners and local residents as part of the consultation process.
Carole Riley of Pendragon commented: "It was apparent that there was a wealth of support for the project within the community and our efforts were helped enormously by a local support group Barmoor Renewable Energy and Windfarm Supporters (BREWS).
"BREWS finest achievement was issuing a newsletter following a ruling by the ASA which upheld eight complaints made about literature issued by a local opposition group. The ASA ruled that their claims were misleading and breached codes relating to substantiation and truthfulness."
Barmoor wind farm was one of three applications determined jointly at public inquiry and Pendragon was delighted that the original decision by Berwick Upon Tweed Borough Council on Barmoor was overturned.
The conclusion by the inspector stated: "I have reached the view that the effect on landscape character would be limited to a closely contained area. Visual effects in certain places and for some people would be major but, overall, they would be acceptable.
"The settings of Scheduled Ancient Monuments and other cultural heritage features would not be significantly affected, and air safety for glider pilots would not be unacceptably prejudiced. Overall, I consider that the proposed wind farm would not have any detracting features of substantial weight."
