Wind farm
Infinergy
Dingwall, Scottish Highlands
A wind farm project proposed near Dingwall in the Scottish Highlands. The wind farm required approval from the Scottish Government with Highland Council as a statutory consultee. The planning officer had initially recommended that Highland Council should raise an objection to the wind farm forcing a public inquiry. However, the Area Planning Committee voted 7-4 not to raise an objection.
Following a sustained local stakeholder campaign led by Pendragon, over 5,900 letters and emails of support for the 17-turbine wind farm were received by the Scottish Government. Communications measures included leaflets sent to all surrounding communities, public exhibitions, presentations, a meet the buyer event for local businesses and one-to-one meetings.
The 51MW wind farm which will be capable of generating electricity for 28,000 homes was granted final planning consent under Section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989 by the Scottish Government in December 2008.
Energy Minister Jim Mather commented: "The Lochluichart wind farm is a significant step in our drive to make Scotland the green energy capital of Europe. There will be economic benefits from the Lochluichart wind farm, with around 100 construction jobs and full time jobs when the scheme is operational. This is exactly the type of project we need to drive our renewables ambitions for Scotland."

Refurbishment of Altrincham's 1960s shopping precinct was long overdue. The layout and architecture were dated, while parking and pedestrian access were inadequate.
